Watching Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, I thought I was watching Abraham Lincoln, himself, on the screen. Daniel Day Lewis’s portrayal of the 16th president was magical and met with my vision of the man.
The movie deserves all the praise and the Oscar nominations it has received. I think Lewis will win the Oscar for Best Actor and would not be surprised if both Spielberg and the picture also win.
The movie is supposed to be based off the book Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. While that Pultizer Prize winning book contains the story of Lincoln’s effort to secure the 13th Amendment to the Unites States Constitution to end slavery, it was a very small part of the book. The story of Lincoln’s efforts on the 13th Amendment covered only four pages of the 754 pages of text.
No matter. Both the book and the movie are worth your time.
